YOUTH LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY TRAINING
For youth ages 14-21 with an IEP or 504 plan
The Youth Leadership and Advocacy training program provides youth and young adults ages 14-21 with useful self-advocacy and community leadership skills. Participants meet on Saturdays during the school year for 10 weeks. During the sessions, they learn about bullying and how to react, how to be a self-advocate and speak up for themselves, what it means to be a leader, and hear from local leaders with developmental disabilities. They also socialize and have fun together!
Participants also complete a community service project, chosen as a group, which can be used to fulfill school graduation requirements.
The program finishes with a graduation ceremony where participants’ families are invited to come celebrate with their youth, and hear about what they’ve accomplished during the program!
