For families with children with special needs, who are experiencing a challenge with their school or district
The Special Education Clinic is conducted in partnership with the Office of Education Ombuds (OEO), a neutral third party. It is conducted once per month in 3 rotating locations: Kent, Seattle, and Redmond. This clinic is for families who are experiencing a more complex special education challenge than our family advocates have the capacity to address. The clinic runs from 9am-5:30pm, and each family meets with an OEO representative for a one-hour consultation. Our staff provide language support where necessary.
An intake is required at least 48 hours prior to the appointment so that the OEO representative can review the family’s issue and prepare. Open Doors’ staff will assist the family in completing the intake. Please contact Hodan Mohamed for more information.
At the consultation, the family and Open Doors will review what has happened with this issue, and the OEO representative will ask questions to find out more. After the consultation, OEO will work with the school, the family, and Open Doors to resolve the issue. OEO is not an advocacy organization, and works to mediate conversations.
